In Zapotec (pre-hispanic culture from central Mexico) "Jolgorios" are moments of joy, celebration and remembrance. El Jolgrio Mezcal has created a range of artisanal Mezcales which reflect Mexican culture and tradition. This El Jolgorio expression is produced from 100% wild-harvest Agave Tobala; one of the most prized of all agaves. Growing wildly in high altitudes, its small size yields limited quantities of intensely aromatic Mezcal. The agave used for this El Jolgorio expression is harvested at 15 years. Due to its size and long growing period Tobala is increasingly rare; being one of the most popular wild Agaves for Mezcal production has led several Agave growers to experiment semi-cultivation with moderate success which means Tobala should be around for a long time if producers keep up with these practices.
